GROUP 4: What more could PEFA do in the future?

09:15 - 11:00

Since 2001 PEFA has become the acknowledged standard for PFM assessments, with more than 500 reports from 149 countries completed as at December 31, 2015. While PEFA is used to obtain a snapshot of PFM performance and its impact on the three budgetary outcomes – aggregate fiscal discipline, strategic allocation of resources, and efficient service delivery – it can also provide a basis for information and analysis in other areas of good governance.

The session will explore initiatives to enhance the use of PEFA through, for example, transparency, gender responsive budgeting, and public administration reform. While these areas may not be part of PEFA, such reform initiatives could potentially provide valuable input and links to various elements of the PEFA framework promoting good governance. It will also explore and develop potential ideas for the next generation of PEFA.
